Modified Pattern: Stepping Texture Hat for Babies!

So I joined a group on Facebook called "Crochet Addict." Why on earth did I go and do that?? HAHA! Now I'm even more addicted to crocheting. But the good news is that these ladies have got my creative juices flowing. Their amazing work has got me wanting to create something. So guess what I did. I took this pattern from yarnspirations.com and turned it into this:

Materials:
Color A: Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Yarn Taupe
Color B: Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Yarn Grey Marble
Size 6mm crochet needle

Note: Jaden has a lot of hair, so the thick brim is perfect for him. For a thinner brim, chain less. Also, I did 60 rows because that fits his head perfectly. If you need to increase or decrease rows, do so in multiples of 10.

Ribbing: With Color A, Ch 10.

1st row: (Right Side). Working in back loops only, 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sl st in each ch across. Turn. 9 sts.
2nd row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sl st in each of next 9 sl sts. Turn.
3rd – 60th rows: Rep 2nd row (should end on Wrong Side). Do not fasten off.

Join back seam: Working in back loops only, sl st last row and remaining loops of foundation ch together. Do not fasten off. Turn work and proceed as follows:

Note: Ch 3 at beg of round does not count as stitch.

1st rnd: Ch 3. Work 60 sc evenly around. Join with sl st to first sc. 60sc. Connect Color B with sl st.
2nd rnd: With Color B, Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts. Join Color A. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 dc) 12 times. Join with sl st to first dcfl.

Note: All dcfp are done with Color B. All dcfb are done with Color A.

3rd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcbp around next st. 1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts. 1 dcbp around next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to first dcbp.

4rd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcbp around each of next 2 sts. 1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts) 12 times. Join with sl st to first dcbp.
5th rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around next st. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 sts. 1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts) 12 times. Join with sl st to first dcfp.
6th rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 sts. 1 dcfp around next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to first dcfl.

Shape top: 1st rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts. Skip next st. 1 dcbp around next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to rst dcfp. 48 sts.
2nd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts. Skip next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to rst dcfp.
3rd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 4 sts. Skip next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to rst dcfp.
3rd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 3 sts. Skip next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to rst dcfp.
3rd rnd: Ch 3. (1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. Skip next st) 12 times. Join with sl st to rst dcfl.

Fasten off leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts and fasten securely.

Pompom

Wind both colors of yarn around your entire hand approx 50 times. Tie tightly in the middle and leave a long end for attaching to Hat. Cut loops at both ends and trim to smooth round shape. Sew securely to top of Hat.

I'd love to see how your hats turn out! Be sure to tag me on Instagram: @LarJCrochets and/or tag me on Facebook!

Total work time: About 2 hours.

    1. Thanks! I'm going to be working on that size tomorrow and I'll just add maybe 20 or 30 extra stitches to make it bigger.
